Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

UrgentCare2Go

What is Shingles?

Shingles, or Herpes Zoster, is a viral infection that causes a painful rash, typically on one side of the body, often with blisters.

Who is at risk for Shingles?

Shingles is more common in adults over 50 or individuals with weakened immune systems, but anyone who has had chickenpox can develop it.

What are early symptoms of Shingles?

Early signs include tingling, burning, or numbness in a localized area, followed by a painful rash with blisters.

Is Shingles contagious?

Shingles itself is not contagious, but the virus can cause chickenpox in someone who has never had it or been vaccinated.

Why is early evaluation important?

Early diagnosis allows prompt antiviral treatment to reduce pain, speed healing, and lower the risk of complications like postherpetic neuralgia.

Can UrgentCare2Go provide in-home Shingles care?

Yes, mobile providers can assess your symptoms, recommend antiviral therapy, and provide pain management guidance at home.

What treatments are available?

Antiviral medications, pain relief options, and in some cases, topical treatments can help manage Shingles symptoms.

Are vaccinations available?

Shingles vaccines are recommended for adults over 50 to reduce the risk of developing the disease and its complications.

Is follow-up care necessary?

Yes, follow-up ensures the infection resolves, monitors pain, and addresses any complications such as postherpetic neuralgia.

Can children get Shingles?

Shingles is rare in children but possible, especially in those with weakened immune systems or who had chickenpox early in life.

What should I bring to my visit?

Bring your medical history, a list of current medications, and information about the onset of rash and symptoms.

Is in-clinic evaluation safer than in-home care?

Both options provide safe care; in-home visits offer privacy and convenience, while in-clinic visits provide access to full diagnostic tools.

How fast can UrgentCare2Go respond for shingles evaluation?

Mobile providers prioritize urgent cases; response time depends on location and availability.

Can telehealth be used for Shingles?

Telehealth can provide initial consultation and guidance, but in-person evaluation is usually needed for proper diagnosis and treatment.
